Dear

Brookwood Bluefish 4th of July Activities

Tuesday, July 3 After practice on Thursday, we will have a team lunch and decorate our float for the parade.  Then everyone can head home to rest before our home swim meet that night against Ludlow.

After the swim meet, the pool will remain open for all Brookwood members until midnight.

Wednesday, July 4 - Meet in the K-Mart parking lot around 8:45am with a bag of candy and a towel to sit on.

No walkers are permitted, and the flat bed can’t hold everyone, so you may want to consider coming with your decorated bike and ride along side or behind the float.

Please do not leave young children unattended on the float.  Parents of children under 10 must ride bikes or be on the float (space permitting).

We do not have a confirmation on the pick-up point after the parade (K-Mart or President's park), but please confirm with someone prior to leaving K-Mart in the morning.

Please note that you must bring your own candy to throw, it will not be provided.  If you have a Sam's membership, a bag of hard candy or tootsie rolls is the best deal.

Letter from the Booster President

Dear Bluefish families:

Welcome to the 2008 swimming and diving season!  The Bluefish booster organization would like to take this opportunity to welcome all of our returning swimmers, divers and their families back to the pool, as well as new participants.   You will find a 2008 schedule and calendar of events, code of conduct, job descriptions and lots more.  Please take a minute to go through the forms and re-acquaint your self with the Bluefish organization and guidelines.

As you know the Bluefish organization is a self-supporting organization that relies heavily on the willingness of participation families to volunteer and help with all aspects of the Brookwood teams.  This includes everything from helping with fundraising events to timing and judging meets.  We also need volunteers for the booster organization.  Since February the booster board has been meeting and planning the upcoming season. The Boosters would like to take the opportunity to thank all the parents for the support and hard work you have shown us.  We are looking forward to a great swim and dive season.

Sincerely,

Michelle Huffman

Swim and Dive Team Information

Registration

Swim and Dive Team registration will take place on Saturday, May 24 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the pool.  SwimVille USA (formerly Pannell) swim shop will be there to take orders for team swimsuits and supplies.  We are keeping the same style team swimsuit as last season.  All swimmers and divers must submit a Registration Form and Parental Waiver and Release Form with full payment on or before June 9, 2008 in order to participate in the first meet.  Make sure you enter any email addresses that you check regularly as we will communicate updated information via email.  If you are not able to communicate via email please note the best way to get information to you.

Fees

Each swimmer or diver is required to pay a registration fee prior to the start of the swim and dive season.  This fee helps to defray the cost of the coaches’ salaries, equipment repairs, ribbon cost and more.  The 2008 registration fee has been reduced to $50.00 per swimmer and/or diver.  In addition, there is a $40 family worker fee that may be refunded at the end of the season if families work the minimum meet shift requirements: (1-2 children – work Four (4) meet sessions) (3+ children – work Six (6) meet sessions).  The $40 fee will not be pro-rated if families complete a portion of their meet session requirements.   Families must complete all of their worker requirements to get a full $40 refund.

All fees must be paid in full by check (no cash) on or before June 9, 2008 in order to participate in the first meet.

$50 registration fee per child (this check can combine all children in a family)

$40 family fee (separate check that will be held until the end of the season)

Forms and Payment

Please send all completed forms and payment to:

Kevin Crail, 3085 Magnolia Court, Edgewood, KY 41017

Meet Session Work Requirements

Parents will sign up for the meet worker obligations on a weekly basis. The schedule will be posted on the bulletin board each week.  Workers will also be needed for the Champ and All-Star Meets.

Equipment

Each swimmer or diver is asked to purchase a team suit.  We are keeping the same team suit as last year.  SwimVille USA Swim Shop will be at Brookwood on Saturday, May 24 (12-2pm) to take orders.  We also ask that the swimmers wear a Bluefish cap.  Caps can be purchased at the meets or on practice days.

You may purchase suits, goggles, bags, etc., at Swimville USA swim shop at 90 Alexandria Pike in Ft. Thomas.  Phone: 859-441-7946

David Bresser Scholarship

Every year this scholarship is awarded to a Senior swimmer by the NKSL.  For information on the scholarship, please visit the NKSL website @ www.swimnksl.com.

Pre-Team

In the past, Brookwood has had a Pre-Team for those kids 5 years old or older who could swim a 25 yard lap of freestyle and backstroke but were not ready to join the swim team.  Typically they would compete in a year end intersquad or NKSL meet and would be involved in the year end banquet.  Consideration is being given to bring back the Pre-Team if there are enough participants.  Practice would be twice per week.  Please complete a Registration form if anyone is interested in the Pre-Team.

Fundraising

Yes Fundraising will be back.  Fundraising helped reduce our registration fees from $70 last year to $50 this year.  LaRosa’s cards, Dinner Night Out and Cookouts are options we are looking into again.  Any new ideas, please forward your suggestions to one of the swim board booster members or coaches.  Let’s try to get some Fun in the fundraisers.

Parents Meeting

This year we would like to hold a Parent’s Only meeting with the coaches and the swim board to review some team rules and to answer any questions.  The meeting will be Thursday June 5th 6:30pm at Brookwood.  Please plan to attend.

Events

We are planning to have some team lunches after practices, participating in the Edgewood Parade and having Spirit Night during the meets.  Consideration is being given to bringing back the team overnight at Brookwood on July 3rd if we can get enough participants and chaperones.  We are also going to host a Teen Night at Brookwood for members and nonmembers.  Any other ideas are welcome.

Website

The Brookwood Swim Club website www.brookwoodswimclub.com is currently being redesigned and updated.  It will be more user friendly to get announcements and information out to all of our team members.  Please check it on a regular basis to keep up- to-date.

Support

Thank you to everyone for your support of the Brookwood Swim & Dive Team.  We are looking forward to the upcoming season and hope everyone has a happy, safe and fun summer!
